Would you like to learn more about how to support vulnerable children and adults in your care?
Would you like to upskill and build your knowledge?
Would you like to be part of a community-wide effort to support our neighbours and colleagues?
The ATR Workforce Development Project will be offering training and materials on Adversity, Trauma and Resilience (ATR), as well as restorative services, to individuals and organisations across Bradford between 2022 to 2025. All offers have been co-produced with local staff and residents.
Led by Bradford Trident, Better Start Bradford and WAVE Trust, this project is a part of the Bradford ATR programme and has been funded by Public Health. Find out more below.

Our partners on this project, WAVE Trust, will be collating the best available tools out there and creating new ones where gaps remain that local residents and staff want to access.
Project FAQs
What will the ATR training cover?
Both of our Level 1: ATR-informed Practice (hyperlink to BSB website) and Level 2: ATR-sensitive Practice (hyperlink to BSB website) courses will cover both the science behind Adversity, Trauma and Resilience (ATR), as well as how to implement this science in practice. Level 2 will cover the science in greater depth and will introduce new areas of implementation not covered within Level 1.
Who can sign up for the ATR training?
Anyone based in Bradford! Feel free to sign up to our half-day Level 1: ATR-informed Practice and our Level 2: ATR-sensitive Practice courses. We would recommend signing up to both in this order to gain the most benefit. We would also encourage you to share the page here (BSB Website) with your colleagues and partners, as well as on your social media pages, to help us spread this practice to all corners of Bradford.
What will be available via the Restorative Services offer?
We are currently exploring a range of options to create a menu of options for our Restorative Services offer. The aim will be to fill in gaps that aren’t currently available in Bradford and to provide services that reflect a variety of needs. We will update this page when we have more to share.
Which topics will the ATR materials cover?
Throughout this project, we will be collating and creating a resource bank of Adversity, Trauma and Resilience (ATR) materials that cover as many of the topics raised to us by local residents and staff as possible, as well as others that are raised during the course of the project. This will represent a broad range of scientific theory and practical implementation knowledge and tools that will be relevant to all local public and third sectors.
How do I access the ATR materials?
We’ll be updating our resource bank of materials here (Resource ATR website) throughout the course of this project. As well as collating the best available materials from elsewhere, WAVE Trust will also be creating new materials to fill gaps that local residents and staff said they wanted to access. If you’d like to give feedback on early drafts of these materials, sign up to be an Early Adopter here (WAVE website).
How have the project’s training, materials and restorative services been co-produced?
We engaged with residents and staff via a series of workshops, virtual meetings and online forms, as well as seeking feedback from others involved in the wider Bradford ATR programme. Our training offer, checklist to source existing materials, and create new ones, and the basis for our restorative services menu were all built upon the results of this research.
What you taught us
We engaged with residents and staff via a series of workshops, virtual meetings and an online survey, as well as seeking feedback from others involved in the wider Bradford ATR programme. Here is what we learned:
- A range of training relevant to Adversity, Trauma and/or Resilience (ATR) has been delivered, or is being delivered, across Bradford. Our goal is to build on this work to spread the knowledge into every corner of the district and ensure that everyone is able to work from the same baseline.
- Restorative services are present to a degree in Bradford, but are not as widely available as we would like them to be. Our project aims to address the gaps.
- Local staff want to see multi-sector training sessions on offer, with a standardised package so that everyone is able to build upon the same baseline.
- Respondents also told us they wanted to see a broad range of topics covered within the scientific theory and its practical implementation, including both the basics and more advanced learning. Our training offer has been built from the bottom up and is based on this detailed feedback.
- The most popular topics our respondents wanted covered within the ATR training and materials offers were science surrounding Adverse Childhood Experiences and trauma, as well as how to improve staff wellbeing, support service users, implement ATR Practice within an organisation and work effectively with partners.
- Staff want to have access to a range of ATR materials, spanning a variety that stretches from apps to guides, infographics and workbooks.
- A range of ideas were shared for what to include in our menu of Restorative Services. These will be instrumental in our ongoing efforts to compile this offer – watch this space!
